How do you use LearnSmart in your course?
I assign a 15 minute module to help students learn the vocabulary from the chapter. I believe it has increased the knowledge of terminology with my students.
Describe the impact using Connect has had on your students.
Connect and LearnSmart are great timesavers for instructors, and the students learn from using those tools. The students’ grades have improved by reinforcing the terminology and helping the students learn the concepts in the course.
Has Connect affected how much time you spend grading?
Grade synchronization simplifies the process of trying to integrate the grades from Connect to Blackboard. It is done automatically, and it is a time saver. Connect has also reduced the need for all of the periodic vocabulary quizzes I used to give.
Has using the reports in Connect helped you identify at-risk students?
Yes. With the reporting features, I can easily see which students are just guessing at all the answers and giving little attention to the content. I can then hone in on these students to try and retain them.
Have you experienced changes in student engagement as a result of using Connect ?
Yes, the students seem to really like the “interactive presentations.” Many of the students are poor readers so this helps them learn the content.
Do you have any suggestions that might assist peer instructors/institutions in using Connect / LearnSmart more effectively?
Well, yes, I do have some suggestions, but they are quite specific to the individual. I would be happy to assist with any specific questions though!
